Profiling Composer, Musician and Rapper Sammie Debbs

Samuel Debrah Koranteng,(born March 19, 1992), popularly known as Sammie Debbs is a Ghanaian singer-songwriter, rapper, and entrepreneur. Sammie writes and performs primarily in the Rhythm and Blues, Gospel, and Hip-hop genres and has stated that he is “influenced by blues, world, jazz, soul [and] country, as well as hip-hop; although his sound takes a lot from the norms, melodies, and rhythm of local/ indigenous Ghanaian traditional music but refuses to be boxed in by that which primarily defines these genres”.

Sammie’s favorite instrument is the bass guitar. Also, stated that he was influenced by the sound and feel of Isaac Kwame Sarpong knew in the music industry as “Sobo” who plays for Sweet Cola Band. Beforethen drums were his favorite of all the music instruments he added. He always likes the drums and the skills used when playing. He spoke about flute where he used to play when he was young which he uses the stick of the pawpaw leave.

The last of 3 children, of which they all boys and labels the three of them as “3 wise men”; Sammie was born in Accra to Ghanaian Parents from Agona Ensuayim in the Central Region and Akwamufie in Eastern Region, and fluently speaks Fante, Twi, Ga and English. He labels his parents as soldiers of the family and brothers as wise men. Sammie has spent all his lifetime on the Vessels Street a neighborhood in Mataheko and salutes his hood for playing a big role in his self discipline and way of life. I was very stubborn when I was younger but I am a Christian now and the hood straightened me.

He attended the Nineveh Preparatory School from crèche to primary 6 and had his junior high school education at the famous Great Lamptey Mills Institute and completed in 2007.
I had my senior high school education at the Anum Presbyterian High School and graduated in 2011. He had his University education at the University of Ghana Legon, Accra.
Currently trying to further his education and applying for some finger crossed USA, Switzerland scholarships ie. YORK COLLEGE OF PENSYLVANIA, COLBY-SAWYER COLLEGE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND ALSO FRANKLIN UNIVERSITY SWITZERLAND.

Sammie began writing in 2006 and had his first recording studio experience in 2012. He soon met Martin Mawutor (Martino) of the Sweet Cola band in 2014 and accompanied the band on many of their live shows and was nearly present at most rehearsal sessions; these combined experiences not only enriched his musical palette but also provided a real-life learning situation from much more experienced musicians. He met Badim a studio boy and an artist who taught him a lot.

He plays football and tennis as his sport.
He has debuted with one new single on his upcoming Ep with several classic songs soon to hit Ghana and beyond.
